Oppression for Satisfaction, 2020

M. Buttigieg

Acrylic, pumice and cheesecloth on canvas

Home for some is a satisfaction and comfort of living, however nature is affected at the cost of human satisfaction.

As urban expansion spreads, nature and its pure beauty thins out to a single twig.

Pumice is applied in a natural way to show the build-up and deterioration of nature, while the smooth geometric application of paint idealizes an urban appeal.

The intent is to show how one affects the other, while creating a sense of uneasiness in the viewer. The harsh visual contrast in the painting exemplifies the diverging ideas of home.
